Carsten Carstensen, Stefan Jansche:

A posteriori error estimates and adaptive mesh-refining for non-conform finite element methods

A computable error bound for non-conform finite element methods is established for the model case of the Poisson-problem. The a posteriori error estimate is reliable and efficient, and based on a Helmholtz-decomposition. Numerical experience indicates that related adaptive mesh-refining algorithms are superior to uniform mesh refinement.
